Who is Matcha Union?
Matcha Union is a London brand founded in 2020 by Louisa Birkhahn, working directly with growers in Uji, Shizuoka and Yame. The name refers to the union of tradition and modern ritual.
Its range pairs cultivar-named matcha with flavoured versions and matcha chocolate, shipped worldwide from warehouses in the UK, Germany and the UAE.
Organic Uji matcha with a complete traditional whisking set
The Matcha Union Organic Ceremonial Matcha Set combines 30 g of first-harvest Okumidori matcha with traditional Japanese tools for whisking and serving. The matcha comes from Uji, Kyoto, and has a smooth, naturally sweet taste with no bitterness. Designed for someone starting a matcha setup or replacing individual tools with a coordinated set, it can also be given as a gift.
What comes in the Matcha Union ceremony set?
The set includes the matcha and four tools used to measure, whisk, serve, and store the whisk between uses. The cotton-white ceramic pieces share a matte finish, while the bamboo tools retain their natural material.
- Ceremonial matcha: 30 g of organic, first-harvest Okumidori from Uji, Kyoto.
- Bamboo whisk: A traditional 100-prong chasen with a limited edition white cotton string, made for smooth, frothy matcha.
- Tea scoop: A bamboo chashaku engraved with the Matcha Union logo. One scoop provides one serving.
- Tea bowl: A cotton-white ceramic chawan with a matte finish, pouring spout, 550 ml capacity, and dishwasher-safe construction.
- Whisk holder: A matching cotton-white naoshi that keeps the whisk in shape between uses.
How does the Okumidori matcha taste?
The included ceremonial-grade matcha is smooth and naturally sweet, with zero bitterness. It is made from first-harvest Okumidori grown in Uji, Kyoto. The organic matcha and complete tool selection make this a single set for beginning to whisk matcha from the first use.
Which details support easier whisking and pouring?
The 100-prong chasen is intended to produce a smooth, frothy bowl of matcha. Its matching naoshi supports the whisk between uses, while the engraved bamboo chashaku measures a serving without a separate spoon. The ceramic chawan has a spout for easier pouring and enough capacity for up to 550 ml.
The presentation box also has a functional detail: its bamboo lid doubles as a tray for arranging the matcha and tools. Together with the matte cotton-white bowl and whisk holder, this creates a coordinated setup for a new matcha user, someone upgrading an existing collection, or a gift recipient.
Ceremonial is a commercial matcha grade made from hand-picked young tea leaves, then stone-ground for its taste and vibrant color.
Ichibancha is the late-April-to-May first harvest, producing vibrant green matcha with sweet, delicate flavor and characteristic umami.
Uji is a historic city in Kyoto where matcha cultivation began over 800 years ago, and its climate and soil shape distinct flavors across varieties.
