Erin Lindwall‘s journey with matcha began over 10 years ago when her fascination with Japanese culture ignited in her youth. After living in Japan and returning to Australia, she discovered that the matcha available locally didn’t match the authentic taste she had experienced abroad.

This realization led to the creation of Matcha Yu Tea approximately 8 years ago, based in Victoria, Australia. The company was founded with a clear mission: to directly source high-quality, delicious-tasting fresh matcha and share its health benefits with Australian consumers.

Sourcing Excellence from Kyushu

Matcha Yu Tea proudly sources its matcha from Kyushu, Japan, milling it fresh to order. The company focuses on ichibancha (first harvest) leaves, which are typically harvested between late April and mid-May. These young, tender leaves are considered the highest quality, boasting vibrant color and rich nutrient profiles.

The company offers two primary grades: Everyday Matcha for daily consumption and matcha lattes, and Premium Ceremonial Grade Matcha made from organic, first harvest leaves with exceptional color, aroma, and smooth finish ideal for traditional tea ceremonies.
