Let's be real, some mornings, 90 seconds is all I have. Zero patience. I just need a matcha in my system before I start interacting with human beings in real life. So, on lazy days, a $5 electric milk frother. >> [gasps] >> It's been I put my matcha in a cup. I put water, not boiling water. I swirl it to cool it, and I froth for 10 to 15 seconds. Done. Smooth, no clumps, no ceremony required. Also, let's talk about the cleanup. A chasen, you have to rinse it gently, reshape the bristles, let it dry properly on a stand. A frother, rinse, down, back in the drawer. Is it traditional? No. Does it make perfect microfoam like a chasen? No. Does it work when you are half asleep and mildly unhinged? Yes. Traditional matcha prep is beautiful. The bamboo whisk, the ritual, being present in the moment. But some days, these $5 things wins. Personally, I cannot romanticize every single day of my life. It's too much pressure. Monday morning, 7:00 a.m., before my brain agrees to participate in society, frother wins. Because someday, I just need a matcha, and that's a-okay.
