Coffee doesn't give you energy. It just hides your tiredness and charge you with interest later. Let me explain. Your body produces a thing called adenosine. It's a chemical that builds up while you are awake and tells your body, "Hey, you're getting tired. Hey, you're getting tired." And if you slept badly, you wake up with yesterday adenosine still there. What a wonderful way to start the day, right? Caffeine from coffee blocks the adenosine receptors. So, your brain doesn't receive the signal. Adenosine keeps piling up without you even realizing it. So, you drink more and more coffee. But when the caffeine wears off, all the adenosine floods at once. Hell breaks loose. Coffee tastes really good, but it's like a gold digger getting your gold and leaving you deprived. That's the crash. Now, here's where matcha is different. Matcha has caffeine, too, but it also have L-theanine. It's an amino acid that does two things. One, it slows down how your body absorb caffeine. No spike, no crash. Two, it promotes alpha brainwaves. That's [music] the calm, focused state. Not jittery, not anxious. Yes, matcha is a dramatic queen, [music] but she keeps you calm, composed, and collected. Matcha just give you stable and actual alertness. I mean, I'd take any stability there is at this point. I still drink coffee. I don't want to villainize it. But if you have ever felt that coffee makes you anxious, jittery, and crash later, maybe matcha is worth a try.

## FAQ

### How does coffee caffeine affect adenosine signals?

Caffeine from coffee blocks the receptors that would normally receive adenosine’s tiredness signal. Adenosine continues accumulating even though the brain does not receive that signal. When the caffeine wears off, the accumulated adenosine arrives at once, which the transcript presents as the mechanism behind the later coffee crash.

### What is adenosine and what does it do?

Adenosine is described as a chemical produced by the body that builds up while you are awake. Its role in the transcript is to tell your body that you are getting tired. If you sleep badly, some of the previous day’s adenosine may still be present when you wake up.

### Why can coffee lead to a crash later?

Coffee caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, preventing the brain from receiving tiredness signals while adenosine continues to accumulate. Once the caffeine wears off, the transcript says all that adenosine floods in at once. This delayed arrival of the accumulated signal is described as the crash some coffee drinkers experience.

### How is matcha described as working differently from coffee?

Matcha contains caffeine as well as L-theanine. The transcript says L-theanine slows the body’s absorption of caffeine, avoiding the spike-and-crash pattern it attributes to coffee. It also says L-theanine promotes alpha brainwaves, associated there with a calm and focused state rather than feeling jittery or anxious.

### What role does L-theanine play in matcha alertness?

L-theanine is described as slowing how the body absorbs matcha’s caffeine and promoting alpha brainwaves. In the transcript, those effects support a calm, focused state and steadier alertness without a sharp spike or crash. This caffeine and L-theanine combination is the stated reason matcha feels different from coffee.
